"Cost
considerations for coated optics"
presented
by
Dan Homiak, CVI LLC
This
month we will have a presentation from CVI in Albuquerque. Dan Homiak of CVI will
discuss cost factors to consider when writing specs for coated optics or building
optical systems.
SUMMARY:
Dan joined CVI Laser, LLC in 2001 after 20 years of selling test instruments for
Tektronix in New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado. CVI Laser was founded in 1972 and
provides the largest inventory (more than 500,000 optics)of any privately held
optics company in the USA. Their recent growth has come from Optical Mechanical
Sub-Assemblies for the Semiconductor industry. CVI Laser employees more than 400
people in four locations (Albuquerque, Covina,CA, Isle of Mann, and Seoul S.Korea)
and expects to grow by 10-20% this year.
The
presentation will highlight the various specifications and tolerances for uncoated
glass and progress into today's coating technologies. He will discuss in detail
e-beam, ion-assist e-beam, and sputtered coatings, along with coating specifications
for dichroics that affect the final cost of your optic. There will also be a discussion
of recent data on Laser Damage done for Sandia and Livermore National Labs on
mirrors and partial reflectors. Design and testing of waveplates may be discussed
upon audience request.
