Meeting Date: Thursday, 19 Nov. 1998 Time: 7:00 PM refreshments, 7:30 PM talk Place: National Institute of Standards and Technology 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO Room 1107 Advanced technology projects at HEAT Dr. Mary Ann Roe Director of Planning, Development, and Special Projects Higher Education and Advanced Technology (HEAT) Center at Lowry Abstract: The Higher Education and Advanced Technology (HEAT) Center at Lowry is an innovation of the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System focusing on newer applications of manufacturing, biotechnology, information/telecommunications, and health sciences technologies. The HEAT Center-Colorado's technology village-enables individuals and firms to acquire knowledge and skills for using and applying newer technology. High-tech programs and collaborative ventures of community colleges, universities, and the private sector are leveraging HEAT Center facilities, laboratories, and resources to maximize "know-how," teach technology integration, and facilitate technology commercialization. Biography: Mary Ann Roe, Ph.D. is Director of Planning, Development, and Special Projects for the Higher Education and Advanced Technology (HEAT) Center at Lowry. In this capacity, she facilitates strategic and business planning and resource acquisition for the HEAT Center. She will also become director of the Rocky Mountain Manufacturing Academy at the HEAT Center in the near future. Dr. Roe served as Dean of Institutional Advancement, Texas State Technical College at Waco, Director of the Texas Manufacturing Technology Center and the Colorado Manufacturing Technology Center. She was team leader of a four-member National Center for Manufacturing Science applied research team to Singapore, Japan, and Germany. Currently, her special project work is focused on facilitating implementation of the Rapid Product Development Alliance, serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Photonics Industry Association, and developing Transformations, a program to introduce women to technical education and technology careers.
