Abstract:

I will discuss and demonstrate non-display applications of nematic liquid 
crystals.  These include polarizers, switchable polarizers, fixed and variable 
retarders, beam steerers, tunable filters, adaptive optics, and fiber optic 
switches. 


Biography:

Tom Baur is the CEO of Meadowlark Optics, the polarization optics company he 
founded two decades ago.  Prior to starting Meadowlark, Mr. Baur did solar 
research at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
