ROCKY MOUNTAIN SECTION OPTICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA & IEEE LASERS AND ELECTROOPTICS SOCIETY Oct. Meeting Date: Thursday, 17 Oct. 2002 Time: 7 PM refreshments, 7:30 PM talk Place: Colorado State University Fort Collins, CO Glover 201 Title: Laser Manipulation of Group III Atoms Siu Au Lee Dept. of Physics Colorado State University Abstract: Using laser light to directly manipulate neutral atoms during their deposition onto a substrate is a new approach for fabricating small structures. Laser manipulation of group III atoms such as aluminum, gallium and indium is particularly interesting, as these atoms are the building blocks of III-V optoelectronics devices. The optical technique provides the possibility for modulating the atomic density in the growth plane in a controlled fashion. In this talk, I will discuss our recent results and the challenges in manipulating these atoms. Biography: Siu Au Lee is a Professor of Physics at Colorado State University. She is a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. Her recent reserch interests include atom interferometry, atom lithography and laser tests of fundamental laws.
